Hey, how did everyone enjoy their internship? I did mine at Walter Murray here in the city of Saskatoon. I taught Grade 10 Wellness, Grade 10 Science, Grade 9 Mathematics and Grade 9 Phys. Ed./Health. It sure was a little different than the high school that I graduated from. The high school I went to was a K-12 school with a total of about 150 students. Walter Murray has an enrollment of over 1500 students. It sure was a great experience.
Who all went to the Career Fair yesterday, did anyone find a job? I didn't but I sure found out a lot of useful information and got a lot of free stuff. I probably visited a total of 12 different booths. I sure am going to be busy filling out all the online applications.
Hi Dylan!
ReplyDeleteI had a great internship experience as well! I was with grade ones in the small town of Langham in a K-5 school. I loved the rural community setting because I got to know and share and receive ideas with everyone. I actually went to visit them today and I really enjoyed seeing everyone again. They have learned so much without me already!
I agree that the Career Fair had lots of useful information and it was neat/intimidating meeting potential employers! I still cannot believe we are almost done and starting our careers.
I did my internship is a school similar to the one you graduated from, k-12 and about 168 students. I was in a k class and in a grade 1-2 split class...so 3 grades in two classrooms and still only a total of 22 students! It was a great time and I am dying to find a chance to go back and see them.
ReplyDeleteCareer fair was pretty cool, loads of great information and not nearly as scary as I thought walking into it. I agree with Kelsey it is crazy to think that this is almost over and we are almost done!
I did my internship just down the road at Aden Bowman. It was a good experience and I learned alot. The High school I graduated from had about 1200 hundred students but it was a senior high school and only had grades 11 and 12. We had over 600 in my graduating class and most people didn't know everyone they graduated with because they never had classes with them. I grew up in BC south of Vancouver so the population of that part of the country is much larger. It was nice to be in a smaller school of only about 600 kids for a few months.
ReplyDeleteHi Dylan!
ReplyDeleteMy internship went great! I am glad you had an amazing experience as well. I had the opportunity to do my internship in a rural community and loved it. It was a k- 12 school with 168 students. Just like Jeff said. I ended up teaching grade 3 and grade 4. I think my favourite thing about internship was being able to get involved and coach.
I found that the career fair was very informative. It was nice to hear what every division is like and what they are passionate about. But I did find it very overwhelming.
That's good you really liked coaching. A lot of schools are in need of coaches. We talk how obesity is growing and all students want to do is play video games or be on the computer after school. At Walter Murray we had to turn a bunch of students away for extra curricular sports teams because the school did not have enough coaches to coach the students. So sad :(
DeleteHi Dylan! I actually attended Walter Murray! I loved it when I was a student there!! I was there yesterday coaching Jr. girls basketball, and I still get a little sentimental feeling every time I'm there. As for my internship, I was at St. Joes and LOVED it! I taught Wellness 10 and Gr. 9 Phys. Ed as well--had a lot of fun with it.
ReplyDeleteI also attended the career fair, but didn't go until near the end. I went last year and talked to lots of different people from different divisions, however, this year I went near the end and only really set out to talk to Saskatoon Public, Catholic, and Prairie Spirit as I'm not planning on moving from the city. It was definitely helpful to talk to people from the divisions in person to hear about each application process. Can't believe I'm starting to look for a REAL job (although I should...I feel like I've been at school forever!!!)
That's awesome. Walter Murray is a great school from what I experienced. Best of luck in your job search!
