Hi, this is Dylan Sveinbjornson, welcome to my E-Portfolio home page. This website was specifically made for future employers to browse my qualifications as I am a potential teacher candidate. This page gives you a brief description about myself. In the top right hand corner of this page you will find various links that I have included in my E-Portfolio, including my teaching philosophy, cover letter, resume, a character reference, final internship assessment, and a sample lesson plan. To view any of these documents click on the link of the document you wish to look at. For example, if you wish to look at my resume, simply click on the resume link just to the right and my resume will pop-up. Then if you scroll to the bottom of the document there is a fullscreen option as well as a download option if you wish to print the document.
I am from a small town called Churchbridge, Saskatchewan. The total population is around 1000 people. For the past seven years I have lived in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I moved to Saskatoon from Churchbridge in 2005 to further my education. I am currently in my final semester in the College of Education. I previously received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2011, which took me four years to complete. Overall this is my sixth year at the University of Saskatchewan. My major teaching area is in Physical Education and my minor teaching area is in Economics. I cannot wait to finish my College of Education Degree this spring and receive my diploma. Soon I will be able to find a job as a teacher and start making money rather than always spending it.
I completed my internship at Walter Murray Collegiate Institute in the fall of 2011. Walter Murray is one of the biggest schools in the Saskatoon Public School Division with over 1500 students enrolled. This is quite different from the high school I attended growing up as it had a total of 250 students enrolled and it was a K-12 school rather than just Grades 9-12 like Walter Murray. However, I had a great experience at Walter Murray teaching many different subjects, including Wellness 10, Science 10, Physical Education 9, Health 9 and Math 9. I also had experience helping coach the junior boys football team as well as the frosh boys basketball team. I have coached many sports growing up in my high school years but this expanded my coaching knowledge as I had never coached these particular sports before my university career.
My short term goals are to obtain a full time teaching contract in Saskatchewan. I think I can still improve on managing a class in the gymnasium. At times I may be too patient with my students and I believe I need to start disciplining my students sooner before they outdo my patience. If I cannot set the tone for the class early in the year other students may try to take advantage of my patience. I must be careful of how and when I discipline my students but I need to ensure that an unruly student will not interrupt the learning for others and perhaps impede the class structure. My long term goals are to own a house in the community I am teaching within. I am currently engaged and will be getting married in July of 2013. We would like to start a family together and both have successful careers in work we enjoy doing. My fiance is an Occupational Therapist so if we could both find a job in the same community working with youth it would be a dream come true.
